About Robin

Every career is a story about
the corners you turned.

Robin Philip has spent more than three decades moving toward what's next, in payments, in web3 and now in AI, and in the businesses he has helped to build. This is the story so far.

Chapter One · Cape Town

Helping Founders Before He Ever Was One

Before any of the companies, Robin's first work was helping other people build theirs. He supported emerging entrepreneurs at the Cape Town Graduate School of Business and for the City of Cape Town: the founders taking their first uncertain steps.

It set the pattern for everything that followed. He was helping founders before he ever was one.

The lesson that stuck: businesses are built by people. Back the person, and the plan has a chance.

Chapter Two · PayGate

Building the Rails, and a Successful Exit

Robin co-founded PayGate when paying online still felt like an act of faith. The infrastructure the world now takes for granted (secure payments, instant settlement, trust between a shopper and a screen) simply didn't exist yet. He saw that it would.

PayGate grew into a leading pan-African payment gateway, processing for airlines, major retailers and global iGaming. It was ultimately sold as the pivotal player in a rollup of pan-African payment gateways, a successful exit, and proof the early bet had been right.

The lesson of those years: infrastructure is a promise. People will only build on what they trust.

Chapter Three · African Payment Solutions

Opening Africa to the World

Having helped bring commerce online, Robin turned to a bigger question: how does the rest of the world do business with Africa?

He founded African Payment Solutions to help multinational eCommerce companies sell into African markets: the unglamorous work of local banks, currencies and regulation that the global platforms wouldn't touch.

The lesson of those years: markets aren't spreadsheets. They're people. You expand into a country by understanding how it actually works.

Chapter Four · CryptoMondays

Early to the Next Corner

Robin was researching, publishing and experimenting with Bitcoin and digital currencies for African commerce while most of the industry was still dismissing it, testing ideas like Bitcoin's Lightning Network for everyday payments long before they were fashionable.

Today he helps build CryptoMondays, the world's largest IRL web3 community, with members meeting in more than fifty cities around the world, including Lisbon and the Algarve.

The lesson of this chapter: technology changes quickly. Human nature doesn't. Communities are built the same way businesses are: on trust, one relationship at a time.

Chapter Five · Decentralized AI

Where Web3 Meets AI

The same instinct (recognising where the world is heading before the road turns) now points at artificial intelligence. Robin sits on the leadership team of the Decentralized AI Agent Alliance (DAIAA), home to many of the world's leading decentralized-AI founders and ventures.

He is also on the founding team co-creating Agent MonDAI, the world's first open-source Web3 community-building AI agent.

The lesson so far: every corner turned makes the next one easier to see.

Today

Why He Does This

Through every chapter (building companies, entering new markets, embracing new technologies) one thread has never changed: Robin's belief in helping people succeed.

He has mentored founders through their first ventures and seasoned leaders through their hardest decisions. He has seen what uncertainty feels like from the inside, and what it takes to keep moving through it.

That is the experience he now puts at the service of the founders and leadership teams he advises.

Not theory. Not frameworks. Experience you can borrow.

The next chapter could be yours.
